The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, refuse to vote in favor of Thomas Jefferson who received a majority of the vote. Instead they will vote for Federalist Aaron Burr. Representative James Bayard confers with Jefferson and ultimately casts the historical deciding vote.
